Farewell Khan
DVB research and planning chief moves on to pastures new.
LAST Word hears that Riaz Khan, the highly regarded managing director of research and strategic planning at Deutsche Verkehrsbank, is leaving the shipping bank at the end of next month after a 12-year stint.
Khan’s Rotterdam-based team, known internally by the acronym Rasp, has earned five awards from Lloyd’s Shipping Economist and received the Marine Money Award for excellence. Khan also served as a voting panel member of DVB’s shipping-related investment fund Shipping Investment Intermodal Management, whose fleet comprises some 80 vessels with an aggregate shipping investment portfolio of $1.1bn.
Since starting his shipping career with a shipowner in 1971, Khanhas been involved in several shipping sectors including tanker and dry bulk covering chartering and operating vessels, and as a board level representative with joint venture partners involving a container liner company.
Before joining DVB in 2001, he worked independently for 10 years in S&P and competitive chartering out of Geneva.
Apart from all of this, he has somehow found time to chair the editorial board of intergovernmental database Equasis, helping to support its mission to promote quality and safety in marine transport.
Last Word would like to join with all at DVB in wishing Khan well in his next venture.
